Over the years, I’ve used social media as a sort of digital mood board. What I’m reading, eating, wearing, etc. You know, all the fragmented parts of my life that end up in your Instagram feed. Admittedly, I love curating my bookshelf for the world wide web. Look at us, reading and then highlighting the same life-altering quote in unison. Such joyful exuberance!
Now, I’m entering a new phase of the creative journey where I am obsessed with inspiration. (Maybe because I turned 40?! I dunno) But seriously, y’all, where do you FIND inspiration * outside of the internet? And more importantly, how do you nurture and sustain it? I need ANSWERS.
So I did, what I always do — start a new creative project to document my intense feelings in real-time. Without further ado * drum roll please * Welcome to The Last Word. Conversations with my favorite authors & artists about craft, creativity, and the last moments that left them feeling utterly inspired.
It’s all interviews & inspirational fodder in the form of memes, quotes, selected readings, and more. If you decide to follow along you’ll witness me being curious, asking questions, listening intently, and of course, reading a lot of books.
BONUS: This place will also serve as a virtual gathering spot for the Well-Read Black Girl (WRBG) community. You’ll get a first look at my creative archive and what new titles & authors I’m completely obsessed with (i.e. BOOK INSPO) I’ll leave you with this inspirational quote from Audre Lorde:
“The speaking will get easier and easier. And you will find you have fallen in love with your own vision, which you may never have realized you had. And you will lose some friends and lovers, and realize you don’t miss them. And new ones will find you and cherish you. And at last, you’ll know with surpassing certainty that only one thing is more frightening than speaking your truth. And that is not speaking.” ~ Audre Lorde
Okay, let’s begin…
YASSS! I am here for this! 🙌🏾
